Squeaky – the UK’s leading marketplace for 100% clean energy – has bolstered its senior team with the appointment of a legal and compliance specialist to further move on its Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) offering to clients.
Susannah Franks has joined Squeaky as Chief Legal and Compliance Officer. She will also be on the board. Franks’ commercial expertise will evolve the firm’s service offering to meet increase in demand in the CPPA space, specifically as the organisation continues to expand globally into new markets.
Franks is a highly respected solicitor with over 20 years’ experience working on commercial contracts in the energy and telecommunications sector.
Prior to Squeaky, Franks held the position of Commercial Director at CNG Energy where she specialised in developing a team of subject matter experts to support the business through a period of transformation. She also held a variety of commercial and legal roles at O2.
Franks has joined the highly experienced Squeaky team at a pivotal time in the UK’s green energy transition.
Commenting on the appointment, Chris Bowden, Founder and CEO at Squeaky, said: “We are delighted to welcome Susannah Franks to the Squeaky team. Susannah brings a wealth of experience in legal and compliance matters which will be fundamental as businesses navigate the mounting pressure from stakeholders to respond to the climate crisis. Regulators globally are seeking common ways of assessing companies’ environmental performance as the act of ‘greenwashing’ appears to have infiltrated the corporate world. In fact, Laurence Tubiana, chief executive of the European Climate Foundation, recently referred to it as: “… the new climate denial”. Understanding and meeting new standards will be paramount for businesses and Susannah is perfectly placed to support that.
“Certainly, the world has faced volatile energy markets and supply squeezes for decades, but this is the first major energy crisis of the clean-power transition – and it is one that puts corporations under monumental financial pressure. It is our role to help mitigate the risk of the volatile power prices for our clients and other corporations. Susannah has a wealth of experience that will be instrumental in guiding companies through the energy bull market we experience today.”
Susannah Franks, Chief Legal and Compliance Officer, said: “I am proud to join a firm that is seeing opportunity in change. There’s no overstating the turbulence in the energy market right now and it makes for an uncertain time for businesses. My objective is to help mitigate the risk and further move on our CPPA product offering so we can help navigate clients through a new era as we transition to clean energy.”
